It seems that each year hundreds of broken and abandoned crayons find there way into the trash at our school.  Although broken, these pieces of "trash" can be turned into "treasured" new crayons.  First graders have been saving crayons from being thrown out.  This spring we will use fun molds to make the old crayons into new crayons.  We intend to take our new crayons to places such as WAVI and doctors offices for children to enjoy.

Steps to making new crayons.
1.  Collect old and broken crayons.
2.  Sort crayons by color.
3.  Remove crayon wrappers.  Put wrappers in the paper recycling basket!
4.  Melt crayons in a crockpot or other safe heating device.
5.  Pour liquid crayon mix into molds.
6.  Cool and remove.
7.  Share new crayons with others.

Alternative:
1.  Follow steps 1-3 above.
4.  Place crayon pieces into cupcake pan.
5.  Heat in oven until melted.
6.  Cool and remove.
7.  Share new crayons with others.
